There's only so much any individual can take no matter who positive they are. The media, the news, the neighbor, and the local barber just add to the pervasive cynacism that is surrounding our nation, no our world, right now. It's no longer just a national epidemic, but has pushed our geographical boundaries to encompass our entire planet.
I notice an enormous difference between the days I'm able to keep the TV, Internet, and newspaper at bay. I walk freely and in a much better mood. What else I've noticed is the how little time it takes after watching or reading anything for my mood to immediately go in the tank.
We cannot walk around ignorant of what is going on, but I challenge each of us to reduce that intake and be a beacon of inspiration to someone. Just like the foods we eat, what we take in is reflective of our mental health as well.
The cliched terms of years past included Random Acts of Kindness and Pay it Forward. Like bell bottoms and big sunglasses, it's time for those to come back into style and start countering the negativity with some good old fashioned HOPE.
