Ironman Coeur d'Alene Wrap Up & Save the Boobs
June 25th, 2009 1:27 PM

As mentioned previously, I embarked on the 140.6 mile journey affectionately known at the Ironman.  A triathlon and a journey, Sunday proved to lived up to it's promise as one of the toughest endurance challenges out there.

It was a tough day (they all are) and a lifetime of emotions fill the hours as you swim, bike, and run your way to the coveted finish line.

I'd like to thank the the ladies at Think Pink, Inc. for the honor of sporting a Save The Boobs visor throughout the week and the race.  It brought a great deal of attention and conversation.  Ultimately, I hope it brings us together in a united effort to fight breast cancer.

If you haven't already visit both their websites (www.thinkpinkcda.com and www.thinkpinkboise.com) to purchase a t-shirt.  Both the Save the Boobs and Hope t-shirts are fantastic and something you can wear with pride.

Real Estate, Breast Cancer, & Pipeline Anniversary
June 10th, 2009 10:25 AM

A three part entry today...all unrelated for the most part.

1.  Real Estate.

The money for people is in the buyers over the next 3 years.  Opportunity, opportunity, opportunity.  Those that have know me,  know that I've always followed the belief that if you want to be successful in "x" do the exact opposite of the masses.  A little tongue in cheek, but it seems to hold more than just a little truth.  So what are the masses doing?  Nothing.

Explore your options.  Inertia creates, well...nothing or at a minimum wasted space.  As Henry Ford once said..."whether you believe you can or you believe you can't...You're Right."

2.  Breast Cancer

With my race coming up in a week and a half and my dedication to my mom and the efforts of the Think Pink, Inc. organization I want to make brief mention today.

Here are the stats for 2009:

Estimated new cases and deaths from breast cancer in the United States in 2009:

New cases: 192,370 (female); 1,910 (male)
Deaths: 40,170 (female); 440 (male)

Every 3 minutes a woman in the U.S. is diagnosed.

Some argue that cancer and other diseases have always been around but our ability to detect and diagnose has increased over the generations.

That might be true, but why is that our country is one of, if not the worst in these diseases, yet we lead in medication taken, obesity, etc.  Maybe our "developed" nation is not so developed after all.

Enough said...(for today) :-)

3.  Pipeline Anniversary

Today marks the 10th Anniversary of the Olympic Pipeline explosion in Bellingham.  If you lived here, it is one of those days you don't forget.  The lives of 3 boys were lost and we became the poster child for pipeline safety across the U.S.  Many say that was the day Bellingham lost its innocence.

Good comes from tragedy and that it what we must focus on.  Don't let the lives of those 3 young kids go wasted.  Let their legacy live on in the positive choices we make for our community.

Make today not just a good day...make today a great day in whatever you do.  Whether it's work, a workout, a day off, or a smile to a stranger...do it with passion!

Save the Boobs
June 9th, 2009 10:18 AM

I am going to go off topic for the next several posts.  You may ask why I would choose to blog about charity, Ironman triathlon, and breast cancer in a real estate blog.

I can certainly understand that line of questioning, but it boils down to this for me.  In order for us all to achieve at the highest levels of excellence in our life endeavors, I truly believe we must have our Why.

The circumstances of my Why began with the relative early detection of a small lump in my mom's breast.  Seven years later after surgery, chemo, radiation, remission, and ongoing seesaw of emotions and events, it claimed my mom's life.

It is my honor to do whatever I can to promote and encourage the awareness, research, and ultimately the cure for breast cancer.  Male, female, single, married, black, white, purple...we are all affected.

On June 21st, I will race for for the non profit, Think Pink Inc. with the slogan of Save the Boobs.  I will blog over the next several entries more about their work, the race, and other related topics.

So...beware there will be little about Real Estate in any of the upcoming entries as there are very important things to share.
