Hackney's Houses

Those of us fortunate to call Bellingham and Whatcom County "home" are not surprised by the inclusion of top lists like this most recent honor.  We know we live in a wonderful area full of amazing character and activity.  Some of us stumbled here completely by accident as I did back in 1989.  I came here to go to school and play football at Western Washington University with no plans of staying.  I just never left and have now officially spent half my life here.

BELLINGHAM — A Web site that offers national relocation information has ranked Bellingham among its annual list of Top 100 places to live.

Relocate-America.com placed Bellingham on the list for the first time based on data research and reader input, according to a report released Thursday.

The company ranks the top 10 communities, then lists the other 90 communities alphabetically.

Bellingham was among the 90 other communities.

According to the press release, communities are nominated by someone familiar with the community’s benefits.

The staff at Relocate-America. com then reviews the nominations, looking at education, crime, employment and housing data for the past year.

Heading the Top 10 list is Asheville, N.C., followed by Traverse City, Mich., and Ithaca, N.Y.
